A public record for the care the world fails to see.
Every day, people hold families, neighborhoods, schools, projects, and communities together.
- They care for parents.
- They raise children.
- They check on neighbors.
- They teach what no one asked them to teach.
- They show up before anyone notices there was a need.
Much of this never enters a report, a résumé, a budget, or a national statistic.
Not because it is small.
Because the systems that decide what counts were not built to see it.
TruIndex exists to change that.
- Not by turning care into money.
- Not by ranking people.
- Not by giving rewards.
By building a record.
A way for acts of care and contribution to be marked privately, gathered carefully, and shown publicly only in aggregate — so a community can begin to see what has been holding it together all along.
What TruIndex is
TruIndex is a public-interest project building a new kind of civic record.
It starts with a simple question:
What would happen if people could mark the care and contribution they already give, without being watched, scored, rewarded, ranked, or turned into data for someone else?
The first version will be deliberately small:
- One kind of contribution.
- One community.
- One private way to mark that something happened.
- One public pattern that shows the whole, never the individual.
What TruIndex is not
- It is not a token.
- It is not a currency.
- It is not a marketplace.
- It is not a reputation score.
- It is not a leaderboard.
- It is not a way to earn rewards.
Those choices are not temporary.
They are the point.
When care becomes something to chase, optimize, redeem, or trade, it changes. TruIndex is being designed to avoid that loop from the beginning.
Why this matters
The world already measures many things well.
- It measures production.
- It measures sales.
- It measures employment.
- It measures growth.
- It measures output.
But some of the most important human contribution does not behave like output.
- It happens quietly.
- It happens inside relationships.
- It happens because someone cares enough to do it.
- It often becomes visible only when it stops.
TruIndex does not claim to define a person's worth.
It only says this:
What holds us together should not disappear simply because no one knew how to record it.
The first pilot
Before TruIndex can become a broader public index, it has to answer one honest question:
Will people take part in something that gives them nothing back?
- No badge.
- No score.
- No personal tally.
- No public profile of their acts.
Only the chance to help reveal a pattern that was already there.
The first pilot will test this carefully, in one community, around one category of care or contribution. Individual marks will remain private. The public output will be aggregate only.
- A community number.
- A shared pattern.
- A trace of what usually vanishes.
Why funding is separate
TruIndex needs support to exist: research, design, administration, technology, community work, and the first pilot.
But money must never flow to or from an individual act of contribution.
Support funds the organization that stewards TruIndex.
- It never buys recognition.
- It never creates rank.
- It never changes the record.
- It never turns care into payment.
That separation is permanent.
